Why use functional testing?
Functional testing is a fantastic tool in getting to the root cause of any health issue and can result in a much faster resolution.
Often when someone is feeling unwell they will have GP blood tests and are told that everyhing is 'normal'. Normal reference ranges have more to do with statistics than health so we often need to dig a bit deeper.
There are many functional tests available, some of the most frequently used include:
Adrenal Stress Profile
This test indicates any imbalances in stress hormones which may affect energy levels and mood as well as contribute to many other conditions including anxiety, inflammation, menstrual problems, infertility and recurrent infections.
This very useful test helps to evaluate digestion and absorption of nutrients, the composition of gut bacteria, inflammation and metabolic markers. Compromised digestive function may result in bloating and gas, indigestion, constipation, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Research also suggets a poorly functioning gastro intestinal (GI) tract may result in symptoms away from the GI tract including arthritis and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Female Hormone profile
An imbalance in the female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone may result in infertility, pre menstrual tension, fluid retention, fibroids, painful and heavy periods, endometriosis and migraine headaches. A number of diagnostic tests are available to help identify hormone imbalances, which may then be addressed through foods, supplements and lifestyle
Other tests available are
- Food intolerence testing

- Vitamin D levels
- Cardiovascular Health check
- Genetic testing
- Health MOT - functional blood chemisty profile & organic acids test
