Why use functional testing?

Often when someone is feeling unwell they will have GP blood tests and are told that everyhing is 'normal'. Normal reference ranges have more to do with statistics than health so we often need to dig a bit deeper.
There are many functional tests available, some of the most frequently used include:
Adrenal Stress Profile
This test indicates any imbalances in stress hormones which may affect energy levels and mood as well as contribute to many other conditions including anxiety, inflammation, menstrual problems, infertility and recurrent infections.
Gut testing - Stool testing & SIBO breath tests
Stool testing evaluates digestion and absorption of nutrients, the composition of gut bacteria, inflammation and metabolic markers. Compromised digestive function may result in bloating and gas, indigestion, constipation, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Small Intestinal Bacteril Overgrowth is also very common and causes a wealth of symptoms.
